The IgCLL group started in 2003 in Stresa during the X IWCLL meeting, with the aim of applying a standardized and consistent method for Ig gene analysis in CLL, based on the most updated knowledge in Immunology and applying the most innovative bioinformatics tools.

The IgCLL group soon established a working group on the same topic within the European Research Initiative in CLL (ERIC), helping to provide international guidelines for a reliable Ig gene analysis in CLL with prognostic and diagnostic purposes, and guidance in the appropriate interpretation of the results by a review board.

Aiming at improving the quality of the Ig gene analysis in CLL in the international research community, the IgCLL group started in 2007 organizing educational workshops on the topic initially annually (Uppsala, Paris, Thessaloniki) and from 2011 biennial (Italy).
